Terms of Service
Last updated: May 18, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the BiTree platform (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (the "Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These Terms apply to all visitors, students, tutors, educators, institution administrators, and other users.
2. Description of Service
BiTree is an online educational platform offering self-paced and live tutored lessons in Web Development, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, and AI Agents. Tutors are volunteer educators approved per-subtrack by BiTree. Educators and institutions can create classrooms that grant their students self-paced access to the curriculum.
3. Pricing and Lesson Access
Most lessons are paid; the first lesson of each major track is free. Access is per-lesson with two tiers:
- Self-Paced single lesson, $12
- With-Tutor single lesson, $18 (curriculum plus one 1-on-1 live session)
- Upgrade an existing Self-Paced lesson to With Tutor, $6
- Subtrack and whole-track bundles, priced by tier from $6 to $10 per lesson with a 20% bundle discount when the track has five or more paid lessons
- First paid lesson in a track is discounted to $7 Self-Paced / $10 With Tutor after the free intro is completed, once per student per track
Schools and districts buy access for groups of students under the institution plans described on the Educators page. Student data managed under educator or institution accounts is not shared with third parties and is handled in compliance with FERPA. Students under 13 using BiTree through an institution are covered by the institution's agreement, not by a direct student-to-BiTree relationship.
Payments are processed by Stripe. BiTree does not store full payment card details. Refunds are handled case-by-case at [email protected]. Refunds for single lessons are issued by request. Track and subtrack refunds are issued at BiTree's discretion when no lessons in the bundle have been completed.
4. User Accounts
You must create an account to use most features. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity under your account. You agree to provide accurate information. You may not share your account. Optional multi-factor authentication (MFA) is available in your profile and we strongly recommend enabling it.
5. Tutor Applications and Proctored Assessments
Users may apply to volunteer as tutors via the Become a Tutor page. The application process has multiple required stages: (a) a written application, (b) a proctored multiple-choice competency assessment, and (c) review by a BiTree administrator. The competency assessment requires you to enable your webcam and share your screen; both your webcam and screen are recorded together and uploaded to BiTree for review. By starting the assessment you consent to this recording and to its review by BiTree staff.
Approval is granted per-subtrack. Tutor status may be revoked at any time for inactivity (60-day flag, 90-day automatic revocation) or for cause. Revocation for cause (CONDUCT) permanently bars re-application. Inactivity revocation allows you to re-apply, but you must complete the full application and proctored assessment again from scratch including a new recording.
6. Live Sessions and Virtual Meetings
Live tutoring takes place in a virtual meeting room embedded in BiTree. By joining a meeting you acknowledge that:
- Every meeting is recorded on the tutor's side (screen and audio).
- Recordings are stored on BiTree's servers and accessible to BiTree administrators for safety review.
- You will treat the other participant with respect and refrain from harassment, hate speech, sexual content, illegal activity, or any conduct that violates BiTree's community standards.
- If you feel unsafe during a meeting, you may submit a report from the in-meeting toolbar. The reported account is automatically suspended pending administrator review of the recording.
- You may not record meetings independently or share recordings with third parties.
The virtual meeting room is provided via a third-party service (Jitsi Meet). Use of the room is also subject to the third-party provider's terms.
7. Reports, Suspensions, and Appeals
Either party of a meeting (student or tutor) may report the other through the in-meeting Report button or through the dashboard report flow. Submitting a report auto-suspends the reported account pending administrator review. Filing false reports may result in your own account being flagged or suspended.
If your account is suspended or banned, you may submit one written appeal from your dashboard. If the appeal is denied, your account becomes scheduled for deletion 30 days after the ban (you will receive a 7-day final-notice email before deletion). If the appeal is approved, your account is restored.
8. Educator and Institution Use
Verified educators (.edu addresses auto-verify; other educational email addresses require manual review) may create classrooms and invite students via a join code. Students who join a classroom receive free Self-Paced curriculum access to the classroom's primary track. Institutions may contract for bulk access with custom pricing.
9. Acceptable Use
You agree NOT to:
- Share, sell, or redistribute lesson content, recordings, or assessment questions.
- Attempt to circumvent payment, access controls, or rate limits.
- Use automated tools (scrapers, bots) against the Service without prior written consent.
- Submit content that is illegal, infringing, harassing, defamatory, or abusive.
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation.
- Use the Service to expose minors to content they should not see, or to solicit minors.
Violation of these rules may result in suspension or permanent ban at BiTree's discretion.
10. Intellectual Property
All lesson content, code samples, assessments, and platform materials are the property of BiTree or its licensors and are protected by copyright. You receive a limited, non-transferable license to access and study purchased content for your personal, non-commercial educational use. You retain ownership of any code or work you produce while using the Service, subject to BiTree's right to display anonymized work for promotional purposes (you may opt out by contacting [email protected]).
11. Termination
BiTree may suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these Terms. You may close your account at any time by contacting [email protected]. Sections covering Intellectual Property, Limitation of Liability, and Governing Law survive termination.
12. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. BiTree does not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, that tutoring sessions will produce specific outcomes, or that the assessment system will be free of transient errors.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, BiTree, its affiliates, and its contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of your use of the Service. BiTree's total cumulative liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the twelve months preceding the claim.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of New Jersey, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New Jersey.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email or by a notice in the Service. Continued use after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
